NZ Tech Expo ran in Auckland on Friday 18 September 2026. It was the first one, and we were there.
Why we went
We are constantly looking at making sure that we are up to date with real world tech (not only the hype that we see on the internet), and this expo was the best place to be.
Investors, startups, businesses, big names, AI, traditional software, robots, networking. More than 2,500 attendees, more than 250 of us in the Executive track. It was a success, not only for the content, also for the interest it caused and the networking opportunities that it created.

Representing Taranaki
This is the first time I feel that I represent the region, I found myself saying very clearly that I travelled from Taranaki and I've never done that before, usually my "I am from" defaults to Argentina, but it wasn't the case that Friday.
I stumbled upon Josh Wineera, head of global partnerships of Taranaki Alliance, which lead to very interesting conversations about how industries and businesses in Taranaki are joining our strengths and working together.
This brought the interest of a few innovators and put the region on their radar, it is clear that we have to go out more often. I felt proud of doing my bit of representing the region in the most successful event of the year for our tech industry.

Visions around AI
AI is a fantastic tool, just a tool, and a fantastic one. It was encouraging to see objective conversations about it; not from fear nor idealization. AI has to find its role, New Zealand is observant and is not waiting, there are loads of projects going on and it will be exciting to see how they evolve.
What we took home
Glad to see that our capacities are up to date, and to receive reassurance that we are doing a great job by managing the latest technologies, staying trained, on the edge, seeing beyond the noise.
